Basics: Must-Haves To Make Dressing Simple – PT 2 TANKS AND T-SHIRTS

Hey everyone!

I’m back with some more of my thoughts on wardrobe basics for easy and versatile dressing! In this post, we’ll cover tanks and tees any why they’re pretty much all I wear day to day.

Basic tees and tanks are amazing wardrobe additions because they essentially expand your wardrobe into a ton of new outfits you didn’t previously have. For example, a pair of straight-leg cropped navy work pants that you typically wear with a button down or blazer can be paired with an effortless white tee and sneakers and finished off with a denim jacket for an adorable springtime look. Once you have your basics down, the possibilities are endless.

I like to ensure that I always have simple, comfy short sleeved t-shirts in at least black, white and grey. ASOS sells multipacks with each of these colours for around $30. One of these tees with a pair of jeans are the perfect base for tons or adorable outfits.

Tees

In addition to the tees, a solid collection of tanks and camisoles are extremely versatile for the warmer months. Camisoles can even be super useful during the fall and winter as they look great paired under a cardigan, sweater or leather jacket. Camisoles can get pretty pricey really fast and although there is a ton of really gorgeous high end options (ie. Cami NYC), my favourite place to go for camisoles is definitely H&M.

Tanks and camis are often sold as bodysuits, which can be an amazing choice for anyone who likes to wear their tops tucked in – like I do – as you don’t have to constantly be re-tucking and your look is always neat and sleek.

Dress Shoes (similar)

Hi friends!

I hope you’re having springtime weather as beautiful as ours here in Vancouver. In the sprit go beautiful weather, I had to go ahead and order these adorable lace up sandals. They also just so happen to be on sale right now (which makes them even more irresistible). They’d look adorable with just about anything, but I especially love the look of them paired with a simple white dress.

I can’t even tell you how obsessed I am with this camo jacket – its just adorable and I’ve been finding a million great ways to wear it. Seriously, camo goes with everything!! I love the combo of this cute classic Levi’s t-shirt with the crisp white jeans and a little camo for some interest. An easy nude shoe is a MUST to effortlessly finish off any look.

Basics: Must-Haves To Make Dressing Simple – PT 1 JEANS

Hey friends,

Today, I’d love to share with you a little bit about my “dressing philosophy” – that sounds so serious, but I can’t think of a better way to describe it (lol).

Basics, to me, are the backbone of any wardrobe. One you have those down, you’ll find putting together outfits to be soooo much easier. These don’t by any means have to be expensive. A white t-shirt is a white t-shirt whether it costs $10 or $100. If you want to invest a little more in order to get better quality and longevity out of your basics, that’s probably a great idea, but the point is that you can build up a collection of basics for cheap too!

If you ask me, the very first thing that you need to start with is jeans. My two favourite styles are high-waisted skinny jeans (MUST HAVE in my book) and high-waisted straight leg jeans (aka “mom jeans” – if you go with this cut, make sure that you get a pair with some structure and that aren’t too baggy, otherwise they may actually look like something a mom from the 90s would wear).

My top pick for skinny jeans would have to be the ASOS Ridley jeans. Not only are they affordable (around $50-$60), they’re super comfy and versatile. They also come in about a million different styles and washes, so whether you’re petite, tall, plus-sized or even pregnant, you can find a pair of Ridleys that fit you! I always feel that my jean wardrobe is well-rounded when I have at least 1 pair of blue jeans, 1 pair of black and 1 pair of white.

For high-waist straight leg jeans, I have my eye on the ASOS Farleigh jeans. Though I haven’t tried them out yet, I’ve heard amazing things and they look like a super flattering cut. Apparently they’re really comfy too, which is a massive bonus for mom jeans.

As far as distressing goes, I personally prefer to keep it subtle. I’m not a fan of anything super shredded and I find that with black jeans in particular, you need to be strategic about the distressing or else things can start to look a little ratty and too grungy for my liking really fast. I prefer a little distressing in the knees on a pair of blue jeans the best, but this is really up to personal preference.

Well, thats pretty much all I got for my must-have jean picks. I’ll be back soon for the next instalment of this new series!

Guess who’s back… back again…

Hello friends…

I’m back and more excited than ever.

The past months of this blog took an unexpected turn. I began with intentions of using this space as a creative outlet and somewhere along the line, I sort of lost the objective of my quest: to find my personal style.

I got stuck on trying to produce interesting content and lost what I had loved about this blog idea in the first place… the personal creative outlet. I wasn’t really all that proud of what I had made. So, this is the do-over.

As much as I tell myself I’m “a numbers person”, I’ve always needed an opportunity to be creative. In high school and university, it was hair, makeup and nail art. Today, its’s hours of creating Pinterest mood boards, dreaming up outfits and imagining a perfectly curated lifestyle. That’s what I’ll be sharing here.

Can’t wait to get back at it 🙂

xoxo Caitlin
