3 Easy Swaps To Make Your Wardrobe More COMFORTABLE

Hey friends,

This post is a little different, but I’ve recently had an interesting revelation that I think is worth sharing. I am a constant closet purger. I hate to be surrounded by stuff that I rarely use or that doesn’t make me happy, so I gladly (and continuously) edit my closet and donate what I don’t use or love.

Even though very much enjoy donating what I don’t use, I still have that emotional attachment to some things – as many of us do – and I find it difficult to let them go. This is especially true when I’ve spent a considerable amount of money on an item of clothing and that I just don’t end up wearing or liking as I had expected. It’s recently become increasingly evident to me that often times the reason why I’ll buy a beautiful (and expensive) piece and then not wear it is because its just not comfortable.

Here are my top offenders and easy swaps to make your closet a little comfier:

  1. Jeans that are too tight or too small. Walking around feeling like you’re going to spill our of your jeans or bust a seam at any moment is not fun (and don’t even get me started on sitting down!!). If you’re anything like me, you may occasionally be tempted to size down in a pair of skin tight jeans because feeling like you’ve dropped a size can feel amazing. HOWEVER, just because you can wiggle your way into a smaller pair doesn’t mean that’s the size you should be buying. Sizing down to the point where you’re not comfortable in your clothes can actually make you look bigger. You’ll not only be creating pinches and bulges that wouldn’t otherwise be there, but you’ll likely be pulling and adjusting your clothing all day trying to get comfortable. Moral of the story: buy a size that is comfortable on you and save yourself the money and the discomfort.
  2. Dresses and skirts that are too short. If you’re on the curvier side, I feel you girl. This can be so so frustrating! There is nothing worse than finding an adorable mini skirt only to discover that it covers little more than your underwear. As difficult as it can be, sometimes you just gotta let the cute skirt go.
  3. Too-high heels or generally uncomfortable shoes. We’ve all been there. Heels are so tempting to buy, but can be so difficult to wear. This is probably one of the most common mistakes I make in my wardrobe and I’ve recently decided that unless we’re talking about a block or a wedge, I’m keeping my heels under 4 inches. I know I won’t grab for them otherwise.

If you’re not comfortable in it, you won’t wear it. I’ve learned this one the hard way.

Thanks for reading friends!

Currently Craving: Levi’s Wedgie Jeans

Happy Tuesday, friends!

I’m here today with a very important post. A post about the most flattering jeans for all the curvy (and aspiring curvy) girls out there. I, myself, am curvy AF and very difficult to shop for. So when these once-in-a-blue-moon little gems come along, its a very good day. Let me show you just what I’m talking about.

A couple of years ago, the classic denim brand, Levi’s, came out with arguably their most flattering fit ever. I’m sure you’ve heard of these magical jeans by now as they essentially took over the market with the likes of Kylie Jenner flaunting her pair on Instagram.

Fast forward a few years and Levi’s has expanded their line with more fits, styles and washes of these jeans than I’d know what to do with. Let me break it down for you.

This iconic fit features little to no stretch with a lived-in vintage feel, a high rise and a super flattering butt! Despite the name, these pants do not give you a wedgie, but rather lift and shape what you’ve got with some very sneaky seam and pocket placement for an ultra-perky booty. Sort of like a Brazilian butt lift… but with denim!

Here are their current styles:

Wedgie Icon: This is likely what you think of when you think of the Wedgie jean. The high rise, tapered leg and angled pockets make them super flattering.

wedgie icon.jpg

Wedgie Skinny: This pair is slightly slimmer through the legs and ankles with the same high rise and flattering booty as their classic counterparts.

wedgie skinny.jpg

Wedgie Straight: As the name suggests, this fit features a streamlined leg with no taper from the knee to the ankle for a long, lean looking leg. The high rise and booty-sculpting action remain.

Let me know, have you ever tried these magic jeans?

Basics: Must-Haves To Make Dressing Simple – PT 4 PANTS

Hi Friends!

Long time no talk. Like.. really long time. I’m sorry. But, I’m excited to be here today to share with you my take on must have (non-jean) bottoms for super easy dressing! This is a category is one that took me a while to develop an appreciation for. Growing up, I was a jeans all the way kinda girl. But having gone through business school and a short stint in corporate finance, I was forced into the world of dressier pant options. Believe it or not, office wear can be some of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe. Let me show you what I mean.

Meet the Jallade Pant by Aritzia. This is my all-time favourite pair of non-denim pants. “Why?” you might ask… Well, if you have an hourglass figure like me, you’ll likely know the struggle of finding a pair of office-appropriate pants that can accommodate hips, thighs, booty AND fit properly at the waist. As a girl who CANNOT wear anything low or mid-waisted, dressier pant options are few and far between.

These pants fit like a glove, flatter all the right places and come in countless high-quality colours and fabrics. At around $130 a pop, I can’t complain. They are shown here in the colour “sky captain”.

jallade.jpg

As far as styling these babies goes, of course they will look unbelievable paired with a simple white button down and some nude heels. This rich deep blue colour (which I’m planning to purchase next) will look so crisp with a beautiful white top. However, It would also look amazing with a patterned blouse or a grey sweater with coordinating heels, pointed toe flats or loafers. The possibilities here really are endless.

To take these pants double-duty and wear them in a casual setting, pair them with a loose, tucked white tee, a classic jean jacket and a pair of white sneakers. Top off the easy look with a cute baseball cap. Another cute option could be a cream coloured cami worn with brown sandals for a summer date night look or a black turtleneck, black heeled booties and a black leather moto jacket for a winter date night look. Like I said, the possibilities are endless.

As I’ve probably mentioned before, I love to find amazing basic pieces that fit well and flatter my curves, then buy them in a bunch of different colours. I mix and match them with more stand-out, unique pieces to change up their look. Not only does this save you time and frustration from jumping from store to store, dressing room to dressing room trying on the entire mall, it allows you to feel confident in knowing that SOMETHING will always work out on those days when you feel you have nothing to wear. It happens to the best of us and these pants are my go-to.

Well friends… somehow I always go into these posts with the intention of writing something short and sweet. This time, I let my apparent passion for… Jallade pants? … get the better of me and I wrote you a short novel. Anyways, I hope his helped you. The moral of the story is.. buy these pants.

Basics: Must-Haves To Make Dressing Simple – PT 3 LOUNGEWEAR AND WORKOUT GEAR

Hey everyone!

I’m loving sharing my thoughts on wardrobe staples and honestly, I couldn’t get through this series without including the ultracasual comfy clothes that I can be found in at least once a day.

Let’s be honest here, we all love our sweats and we don’t always keep them in the house. Whether you need to run some errands or you’re heading to the gym, a cute outfit will make you look and feel more put together.

Lounge and sportswear will look different for everyone based on lifestyle. For me personally, this part of my wardrobe MUST consist of at least: a few good pairs of high-waisted black leggings (the Gap ones with “blackout technology” are my faves – see below for more on that), a handful of sports bras and crop tops and a number of matching jogger and hoodie lounge sets in neutral colours (black and grey especially).

Now, I know my selection of “must haves” sounds a little sloppy. But, let me tell you why I chose these pieces in particular. First of all, comfort and function – I work out every day in high-waisted leggings, a sports bra and a crop top. It’s just the comfiest option for me. Second, theres a little thing (no – a massive thing) called the “athleisure” trend going around right now. This is brilliant because it means including athletic clothing into everyday outfits for cute, comfy and functional sporty looks!

I’ll give you a little run down of how I love to pair these items for everyday wear. Leggings with a loose black tee, a black leather jacket and black sneakers is an effortlessly cool look. The same leggings and shoes can instead be paired with a white or grey tee (sub the tee out for a cute hoodie if you’d like) and top it off with a jean jacket and sunnies. OR! swap out the leggings for some cute grey joggers and wear them with those last couple of outfits I described.

For a slightly less casual, but super cool and chic look that I love to wear ALL. THE. TIME. I love to wear and heather grey hoodie with a grey wool-style coat and jeans in any colour. I finish this outfit off with some sleek heeled booties for an effortlessly cool (and comfy) look!

I hope you guys are enjoying reading this series as much as I’m enjoying working on it!

WARDROBE REFRESH: How $112 at Boohoo Buys a Bunch of New Outfits

Hey friends!

I thought it might be fun – since we’ve been talking so much about basics over here – to show you how I love to mix and match those pieces with stand-out statement pieces to create endless amounts of fresh, new outfits. Once you have your basic wardrobe down, its SO SO easy to create loads of different outfits with just a few new statement additions. I think I’ll do this from time to time with pieces from different online stores and call it the “wardrobe refresh” series. Today, I went to boohoo.com and found a TON of cute pieces to play around with. For this post, I’ve narrowed it down to 3 different pieces for a total of CAD $112. Heres what I came up with…

First, this flirty summer bodysuit is just adorable. The halter neck and ruffles keep it super light and fun while the white colour makes it SO easy to wear! Pair this with black, blue or white jeans topped with a cute jean or army jacket, a jean skirt and sandals or a leather skirt and heels for a night time look.

Bodysuit ($27)

Next up is this gorgeous embroidered mini skirt. This would pair perfectly with the bodysuit above and a cute pair of heels. It can also easily be dressed down and worn with a black, white or grey t-shirt and a jean jacket with some cute scrappy sandals. Another idea is to wear it with a black lace cami and top it with a leather jacket and black heels or booties for a going out look.

fullsizeoutput_842

Skirt ($43)

Finally, we have these cute little gingham sandals. I love these because 1) they have a low block heel which will make them comfortable and practical and 2) the gingham print will add a little pop of interest to an otherwise basic outfit. The wrap around tie detail will also add a fun, flirty vibe. I’d wear these with the bodysuit above and any pair of jeans or a jean skirt, I’d wear them with a little white dress and a jean jacket, or even with an all black look for nighttime.

fullsizeoutput_843

Shoes ($42)

Whenever I shop, I love to think of all the possible ways that I can wear an item before I commit to it. My rule of thumb is that I need to be able to wear it with 3 different outfits that I already have in my wardrobe in order to buy it. This ensures that I get the most bang for my buck (and a bunch of new outfits!).

Let me know what you think of my little series!

Basics: Must-Haves To Make Dressing Simple – PT 2 TANKS AND T-SHIRTS

Hey everyone!

I’m back with some more of my thoughts on wardrobe basics for easy and versatile dressing! In this post, we’ll cover tanks and tees any why they’re pretty much all I wear day to day.

Basic tees and tanks are amazing wardrobe additions because they essentially expand your wardrobe into a ton of new outfits you didn’t previously have. For example, a pair of straight-leg cropped navy work pants that you typically wear with a button down or blazer can be paired with an effortless white tee and sneakers and finished off with a denim jacket for an adorable springtime look. Once you have your basics down, the possibilities are endless.

I like to ensure that I always have simple, comfy short sleeved t-shirts in at least black, white and grey. ASOS sells multipacks with each of these colours for around $30. One of these tees with a pair of jeans are the perfect base for tons or adorable outfits.

fullsizeoutput_82b

Tees

In addition to the tees, a solid collection of tanks and camisoles are extremely versatile for the warmer months. Camisoles can even be super useful during the fall and winter as they look great paired under a cardigan, sweater or leather jacket. Camisoles can get pretty pricey really fast and although there is a ton of really gorgeous high end options (ie. Cami NYC), my favourite place to go for camisoles is definitely H&M.

Tanks and camis are often sold as bodysuits, which can be an amazing choice for anyone who likes to wear their tops tucked in – like I do – as you don’t have to constantly be re-tucking and your look is always neat and sleek.

Now that we’ve covered basic jeans and tops, we already have the basis for a ton of different outfits!

I’m loving sharing my thoughts on building a wardrobe here and I’ll be back soon with lots more!!
