WARDROBE REFRESH: How $112 at Boohoo Buys a Bunch of New Outfits

Hey friends!

I thought it might be fun – since we’ve been talking so much about basics over here – to show you how I love to mix and match those pieces with stand-out statement pieces to create endless amounts of fresh, new outfits. Once you have your basic wardrobe down, its SO SO easy to create loads of different outfits with just a few new statement additions. I think I’ll do this from time to time with pieces from different online stores and call it the “wardrobe refresh” series. Today, I went to boohoo.com and found a TON of cute pieces to play around with. For this post, I’ve narrowed it down to 3 different pieces for a total of CAD $112. Heres what I came up with…

First, this flirty summer bodysuit is just adorable. The halter neck and ruffles keep it super light and fun while the white colour makes it SO easy to wear! Pair this with black, blue or white jeans topped with a cute jean or army jacket, a jean skirt and sandals or a leather skirt and heels for a night time look.

Next up is this gorgeous embroidered mini skirt. This would pair perfectly with the bodysuit above and a cute pair of heels. It can also easily be dressed down and worn with a black, white or grey t-shirt and a jean jacket with some cute scrappy sandals. Another idea is to wear it with a black lace cami and top it with a leather jacket and black heels or booties for a going out look.

Skirt ($43)

Finally, we have these cute little gingham sandals. I love these because 1) they have a low block heel which will make them comfortable and practical and 2) the gingham print will add a little pop of interest to an otherwise basic outfit. The wrap around tie detail will also add a fun, flirty vibe. I’d wear these with the bodysuit above and any pair of jeans or a jean skirt, I’d wear them with a little white dress and a jean jacket, or even with an all black look for nighttime.

Whenever I shop, I love to think of all the possible ways that I can wear an item before I commit to it. My rule of thumb is that I need to be able to wear it with 3 different outfits that I already have in my wardrobe in order to buy it. This ensures that I get the most bang for my buck (and a bunch of new outfits!).

Let me know what you think of my little series!

Basics: Must-Haves To Make Dressing Simple – PT 1 JEANS

Hey friends,

Today, I’d love to share with you a little bit about my “dressing philosophy” – that sounds so serious, but I can’t think of a better way to describe it (lol).

Basics, to me, are the backbone of any wardrobe. One you have those down, you’ll find putting together outfits to be soooo much easier. These don’t by any means have to be expensive. A white t-shirt is a white t-shirt whether it costs $10 or $100. If you want to invest a little more in order to get better quality and longevity out of your basics, that’s probably a great idea, but the point is that you can build up a collection of basics for cheap too!

If you ask me, the very first thing that you need to start with is jeans. My two favourite styles are high-waisted skinny jeans (MUST HAVE in my book) and high-waisted straight leg jeans (aka “mom jeans” – if you go with this cut, make sure that you get a pair with some structure and that aren’t too baggy, otherwise they may actually look like something a mom from the 90s would wear).

My top pick for skinny jeans would have to be the ASOS Ridley jeans. Not only are they affordable (around $50-$60), they’re super comfy and versatile. They also come in about a million different styles and washes, so whether you’re petite, tall, plus-sized or even pregnant, you can find a pair of Ridleys that fit you! I always feel that my jean wardrobe is well-rounded when I have at least 1 pair of blue jeans, 1 pair of black and 1 pair of white.

For high-waist straight leg jeans, I have my eye on the ASOS Farleigh jeans. Though I haven’t tried them out yet, I’ve heard amazing things and they look like a super flattering cut. Apparently they’re really comfy too, which is a massive bonus for mom jeans.

As far as distressing goes, I personally prefer to keep it subtle. I’m not a fan of anything super shredded and I find that with black jeans in particular, you need to be strategic about the distressing or else things can start to look a little ratty and too grungy for my liking really fast. I prefer a little distressing in the knees on a pair of blue jeans the best, but this is really up to personal preference.

Well, thats pretty much all I got for my must-have jean picks. I’ll be back soon for the next instalment of this new series!

xoxo Caitlin
